Thanksgiving is sneaking up on us, which means the winter holiday season is soon to follow. Humboldt County has typically been THE place to be due to our variety of parades, and spectacular lighted tree displays. Now in this new age of “COVID,” some of our events may look a little different, but will continue all the same. Here are the top festive holiday activities in Fortuna, CA.
First of all, The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in Fortuna makes a great home base for your holiday season getaway – close to events in our community, Eureka’s Old Town, Garberville and Ferndale’s Victorian Village, surrounded by the natural splendor of the redwood forests.
Ferndale CA Lights Up the Holidays
The Victorian Village of Ferndale is a special place during the holiday season, and 2020 is no different with one minor exception: The town will have its annual Lighting of America’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree, but this year it will be a virtual event. However, Ferndale will have its annual Lighted Tractor Parade! Local farmers and ranchers parade fancifully decorated tractors and tractor-drawn wagons depicting holiday scenes down the Victorian Village’s historic Main Street for a sparkling country Christmas celebration! Tractors line up at 4:30 p.m. for judging at 5, and start parading at 6. Also, Ferndale Community Church (712 Main Street) will be open during the parade and serving free cookies with cocoa and cider! Their restrooms will also be accessible.

Fortuna CA Festive Holiday Events
Downtown Fortuna will plan to host their Annual Holiday Open House to coincide with Al & Edie Gray’s Electric Lighted Truck Parade –visitors can enjoy the parade, refreshments, and do some holiday shopping. Redwood Village Shopping Center, 735 S. Fortuna Blvd., Fortuna.

Eureka CA Lighted Truck Parade Returns
The Annual Lighted Trucks Parade returns to Eureka at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, 3750 Harris Street.

Garberville CA Christmas Events
A little farther away from us, about 50 miles south, downtown Garberville and Soroptimist International of the Redwoods present the Annual Lighted Truck Parade. Details are forthcoming. Later in the month, Garberville will host The Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce “Small Town Christmas”, featuring fun for the entire family including face painting, carriage rides, hay rides, food and drink.
