Fantastic Brew Pub on California’s Redwood Coast

When you stay at The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in Fortuna, Eel River Brewing Company and its Pub and Restaurant are just steps away from your lodging. The brewery was the first in the United States to become a Certified Organic Brewery. Their award-winning hand-crafted beers are brewed right here in the heart of the California Redwoods. In addition to the restaurant and pub, it boasts the largest beer garden on California’s North Coast!

Their famous stout-smoked BBQ meats are prepared  onsite. The menu also features beer-battered favorites and local products such as Loleta cheese. Vegetarian and gluten free menu items are available. Whatever you choose to eat, they promise one of their ales or lagers will pair well with it (they also serve a selection of wines).

A dozen brews usually are on tap, including: California Blonde Ale, Amber Ale, I.P.A., and Porter. Other current options are Emerald Triangle Pale Ale, Triple Exultation Barleywine Style Ale, plus specialty brews such as Twenty-Three Anniversary Ale (Triple Exultation ale aged 6 months in white oak bourbon barrels) and 1405 Irish Cream Stout.

Here are some tips from Alicia, our Hotel Steward:

  • The Eel River Brewing Company Pub and Restaurant is known for their local, organic brews, local cheese, and brewery-raised Black Angus beef.
  • The atmosphere is great and customer service is top notch.
  • My favorite meal is  beer with a burger and fries or beer-battered onion rings. Try beer-battered anything and beer!
  • Don’t miss horseshoes out back in the beer garden!
  • They sell growlers and t-shirts here that are great for souvenirs.

The Redwood takes pride in grounding your stay with a sense of place in the redwoods and in being Humboldt County’s TripAdvisor-certified GreenLeader Hotel. Eel River Brewing Co. shares these values. They believe the people of Humboldt County are “Hardworking. Passionate. Original. Innovators…we sought out to capture that pioneering spirit” in the brews. When you walk into the pub, you’ll see the 30 foot long bar made entirely from recovered historic Redwood and Douglas Fir. Even the tap handles are made from reclaimed wood! In addition to being the first certified-organic brewery in the U.S., their brewing facility uses bio-mass renewable energy and spent brewery malt is used to feed their own organic Black Angus cattle.

Don’t miss this chance to eat and drink local during your stay at The Redwood! Eel River Brewing Company’s Pub and Restaurant is open from 11:00 am until 11:00 pm daily. They are located at 1777 Alamar Way, just a block north from our hotel.
