Come to the Redwood Coast September 29, 2018, and celebrate the recently completed Eureka Waterfront Trail’s Grand Opening and Eureka’s FIRST Art & Culture Festival. This free Festival will celebrate local arts and culture along the Redwood Coast and reveal the eight new artistic benches placed along the Eureka Waterfront Trail. The Eureka Arts & Culture Festival at Halvorsen Park is only 30 minutes from The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel in nearby Fortuna, CA.
Enjoy all kinds of recreation on the trail during the Art & Culture Festival – Roll ‘n Stroll in the morning if you wish, then in the afternoon, kayak in the Bay, enjoy Speeder Rides, or rent an electric bike to discover the final section of the Trail. At the Festival, you’ll find hands-on activities, live mural painting, music, kinetic art, presentations by bench artist, artisan and craft demonstrations. The Main Stage will feature live music and dance companies throughout the day, concluding with Circus of the Elements, followed by Light the Night Walk on the Trail.
You can go on a Trail Scavenger Hunt at the Festival, build a recycled lantern, learn to weave a basket or play the ukulele. Take a Historic Tour with North Coast Repertory Theatre, have an artist draw your caricature, or learn to grow mushrooms. There’ll be a Kid Zone, plus local food and beverage vendors where you can sample specialties from BBQ to tacos and oysters to local brews. Visit the Festival website for the current schedule of events and additional information.
The completed Eureka Waterfront Trail now offers visitors a way to walk, bike or jog on over 6 miles of contiguous trails, including a portion along the Eureka marina and downtown Eureka Boardwalk. The oldest section, the Hikshari’ Trail, stretches for 1.5 miles along the Bay near the Elk River, while the newest phase extends the Trail along the south shore of North Humboldt Bay and the Eureka Slough. Visitors will find interpretive signage, great locations for watching wildlife, recreational opportunities, and now artistic benches along the length of the Trail.
We at The Redwood look forward to the new Eureka Arts & Culture Festival becoming an annual event that highlights the great year-round recreational opportunities along the different sections of the Eureka Waterfront Trail. The trailhead for the Hikshari’ Trail portion of the Eureka Waterfront Trail is less than 20 minutes away from Fortuna, so include exploring part of the newly completed Trail in plans for your next Redwood Coast vacation. The Redwood in Fortuna is your perfect hotel choice, near attractions like the Avenue of the Giants and the Lost Coast, as well as Eureka’s historic and recreational attractions.
