Fortuna Christmas 2017: Holiday Lights Music & Home Tour

Main Street is aglow with holiday lights each evening, and the Christmas Electric Light Parade will add the spectacle of vehicles decorated in thousands of holiday lights on Friday, December 8, 2017.

Sunday, December 10, 2017, holiday tunes will ring in the season at the 41st Annual Fortuna Christmas Music Festival. Musical groups ranging from barbershop singers to bands and accordions to tubas mean there’s something for everyone’s musical tastes. The All Season Orchestra leads off the afternoon at 12:30 pm, followed by the Humboldt Accordionaires and the Humboldt Harmonaires. At 2:00 pm, the College of the Redwoods Concert Band will take the stage, followed by the Eureka Brass. At 3:00 pm visitors will hear A Company of Voices, then celebrate Feliz Navidad with Mariachi Real de Mexico. Tune into Tuba Christmas at 4:00 pm, followed by the Fortuna High School Music Department, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Choir, and the Scotia Band. The Festival’s Finale at 6:00 -includes a sing-along featuring Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and Silent Night. Admission to the festival is free as a gift to the community, but visitors are invited to contribute cash donations to the Santa Sleigh toy and clothing drive, and non-perishable items to the Fortuna holiday food drive.

Holiday wreath with red and yellow fruit decorations hanging on blue-green paneled doorWednesday, December 13, 2017, holiday festivities continue at the Fortuna Garden Club’s 4th Annual Christmas Home Tour and Tea, from 1:00 – 9:00 pm. Visitors are invited to view three homes and one business decorated in this year’s theme: All Things Merry and Bright. Stop by the Monday Club to bid on your favorite Dutch auction items, and enjoy the Holiday Tea, complete with cookies, scones, candy, and a choice of beverages. Tickets for the Tour and Tea are $15 per person; children under age 5 are free. Proceeds tour support civic beautification, scholarships, a youth gardening project, and the Daffodil Show.
