Fortuna Eureka and Ferndale Lighted Truck Parades

trucker parade - truck lights with Christmas lights in dragon designNorthern California leads the nation in Lighted Truck Parades, and visitors to Humboldt can enjoy these spectacles in Fortuna on Friday, December 8, 2017, Eureka on Saturday, December 9, 2017,as well as a Lighted Tractor Parade in Ferndale’s Victorian Village on Sunday, December 17, 2017. The history of these parades is said to date back to the late 1970s, when 21 local logging trucks began the informal tradition of a lighted Christmas parade upon their return from a cross-country convoy to Washington, D.C. to protest expansion of the Redwood National Park. Today, all kinds of vehicles, from big rigs and construction vehicles to tractors and bicycles are decorated with thousands of colorful Christmas lights to participate in these holiday season lighted parades.

Fortuna’s Al Gray Electric Lighted Parade begins at the Redwood Village Shopping Center the evening of December 8, 2017 at 6:30 pm. The parade travels down Fortuna Boulevard to Downtown Fortuna and back. All kinds of vehicles, whether truck, tractor, van, tractor, or ATV, are festooned with holiday lights for this parade. There are prizes for those judged to be Most Spirited, Most Original, Most Lights, Best Junior Entry, and People’s Choice. Enjoy refreshments and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Fortuna Downtown’s Open House during the evening.
Date & Time: Friday, December 8, 2017, at 6:30 pm

Eureka’s KEKA Christmas Truckers Parade takes place on the second Saturday of the month, December 9 in 2017. A Eureka tradition for about 20 years, thousands of people watch as the parade of close to 100 trucks honking “Jingle Bells” as they parade along a seven-mile route. Past entries have featured trucks decorated with more than 40,000 lights, and others with decorations such as dancing reindeer and flying fish. The parade starts at 6:00 pm at Redwood Acres and continues until about 8:30 pm.
Date & Time: Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm
Locations: The parade proceeds from the Redwood Acres parking lot right onto Harris Street, then onto I Street, returning via 7th Street and Myrtle Avenue to Redwood Acres.

Ferndale’s Victorian Village hosts their 25th Annual Christmas Lighted Tractor Parade on Sunday, December 17, 2017, beginning at 6:00 pm. In this community, local farmers and ranchers decorate tractors and tractor-drawn wagons with colorful lights depicting holiday themes.
