Humboldt Local Food Month celebrates our county’s local food, farmers, and abundance throughout September. For the complete schedule of events, visit their website. Right here in Fortuna, you’ll find the Farmers’ Market every Tuesday afternoon. You’ll find bountiful fruits, vegetables, herbs, tamales, and more, but guests shouldn’t overlook make your own bouquets, nursery stock, soaps, lotions, woolen items, and even jewelry for sale. All items are locally grown or created, of course! Every week a winner receives a “bounty basket” of free, locally-grown produce. Fortuna Farmers’ Market

When you visit the Farmers’ Market you’re likely to find products from Shakefork Community Farm, which will host a Farm Tour Saturday, September 30, 2017. They grow over 150 varieties of vegetables, grains, eggs, chicken, and a variety of grass-fed meats on their 85 acres beside the Van Duzen River in nearby Carlotta (just 8 miles from Fortuna). Saturday’s garden tour and pasture walkabout includes a demonstration with their oxen.

The same Saturday, September 30, you can venture farther away and celebrate the harvest season at the 2017 Taste of Willow Creek Fall Festival. The Festival features live music, local artists and artisans, children’s activities, a silent auction, plus wine tastings from local vineyards in California’s ‘Far North’ wine region paired with custom amuse-bouche.
