There’s no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in June that enjoying wine, art, and music right here in Fortuna at the 28th annual Art & Wine in the Park festival. There are plenty of reasons to celebrate, from the greatest number of artists in any California county, to the more than 150 acres of vineyards planted in Humboldt’s diverse micro-climates. At last count, 16 different wine grapes, from Cabernet Franc to Zinfandel, are grown here, yielding 30 different types and styles of wine!
Enjoy live music by the Delta Nationals while you browse the unique works by local artists and artisans. You’ll find handmade items from jewelry to woodcrafts, ceramics to clothing, and plants to paintings on display. You can sign up to attend the festival’s free wine school, then test your knowledge tasting some of the over 20 different local and other California wines to sample. Tasting glasses are $25 ($20 advance purchase). It’s always best to enjoy food and wine from the same locale, and you’ll have plenty of choices, both savory and sweet. Look for Humboldt-harvested oysters, Fortuna-grown strawberries, and small batch cheeses like Humboldt Garden Cheddar or Herb & Spice Havarti, made by the Artisan Cheese Factory in nearby Loleta.
The North Coast redwoods, scenic rivers, and dramatic California coastline are some of the reasons to visit Humboldt County, but so are the region’s great artists, wines, and good eats. Art & Wine in the Park brings them altogether, so don’t wait to give us a call or go online and book your stay at The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel for this annual Fortuna celebration.
